What is tongue tie?
A tongue ties is a tighter than usual membrane under the tongue that restricts its movement
Is it common?
Its thought to affect 1:10 babies
Why is it a problem?
For baby - difficulty latching, regulating milk and feeding effectively leading to weight loss, jaundice, with excessive wind and poor sleep.
For Mum - Damaged misshapen nipples, engorgement or mastitis, pain and dread of feeding
If baby needs a tongue-tie division
Is the division painful?
Babies react the same as having vaccinations.
How long does it take to heal?
The wound is diamond shaped and looks like a small mouth ulcer. It heals in 2-5 day
Will I notice a difference straight away?
For most babies the effect can be felt very quickly but you will have some exercises to do that will help strengthen the tongue muscles.
